Your favorite performer(s) are coming to town and you really want to see them, but you know that none of your local friends are fans. You are now faced with two options: 1- miss the show(s) or 2- attend the concert by yourself. Spoiler alert: you are going to go to the concert by yourself!

Now I know that the idea of attending a concert by yourself can feel weird, but trust me, it isn’t. If you feel that you may not have as much fun believe me when I say that you will have a great time because everything you need is there.

A few of the amazing shows I attended solo and with friends!

Of course, it’s always fun to have your friends with you to share the love of the artist and create lasting memories with them. I know that everyone loves going to shows with friends, but I don’t think one should risk creating their own lasting memories by missing out on a show for fear of going alone. And honestly, you won’t be alone, you’ll be there with thousands of other like-minded people who share the same love of music as you. There is also plenty of opportunities to bond and make friends with the people sitting near you.

I started attending shows by myself when I was living in California. After the band INXS found a new lead singer they released a new album and announced a tour. I knew that none of my friends were fans, but I didn’t want to miss out on seeing this band live. After much thought, my desire to see them out weighted my concern of going alone and it was the best decision because I had the greatest time.

One of the perks of going to a show alone is that you can sometimes snag one of the best seats in the house! I’ve noticed on a few occasions that there were single seats in some of the rows closest to the stage that would be available for sale, sometimes weeks before a show. This is how I was able to get a seat close to the stage at two Goo Goo Dolls shows! Since I only needed one ticket I was able to get a seat pretty close to the stage which I was thrilled about. I spent the entire show dancing, singing and having the time of my life. And remember when I mentioned creating lasting memories? My lasting memory at one particular show was seeing lead singer, Johnny Rzeznik sing directly to me. True story!

Had the opportunity to volunteer at the merchandise table during a Tony Lucca concert!

If you still feel awkward about attending a show alone, I totally get it! As always do what feels most comfortable for you, but if you’re willing to go as a party of one, get that ticket and have fun!
